Places to visit in one day in Agra by private car
One-day Agra tour by car takes you to some of the top tourist places.
1. Taj Mahal
The Taj Mahal is a breathtaking wonder nestled in Agra, considered a symbol of undying love throughout the world. Built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, this iconic mausoleum was built in memory of his cherished wife, Mumtaz Mahal.
The monument, constructed at one end of an elaborate Charbagh-style garden, forms the centrepiece of a grand complex. Made entirely from white marble, its beauty, symmetry and intricate details captivate everyone and leave them spellbound.
The Taj Mahal is a representation of Indian history and culture from the Mughal era. A mosque and an assembly hall are other structures in the complex. Shah Jahan’s grave, too, is inside.
- Must See / Things to Do: Explore the manicured gardens and capture stunning photos of this timeless marble mausoleum.
- Timings: 5 AM – 6:30 PM (Closed on Friday)
- Entry Fee: ?50 (Indians), ?540 (SAARC and BIMSTEC citizens), and ?1100 (foreign tourists)
2. Agra Fort
Next on our tour is the Majestic Agra Fort, located at the heart of Agra, it is an entire city within walls. It’s an expansive complex with numerous palaces, courtyards and halls. This architectural marvel has a fusion of Islamic, Persian and Hindu elements in its structures.
This grand fort served as a residential and administrative complex for the Mughals before their capital shifted to Delhi. The fort offers a window into royal life and the history of the Mughal Empire. And from certain vantage points, you can even catch views of the Taj Mahal. No tour to Agra is ever complete without visiting this place.
- Must See / Things to Do: Explore the historic Diwan-i-Am and Diwan-i-Khas halls, along with Musamman Burj, the tower where Shah was imprisoned.
- Timings: Open from sunrise to sunset
- Entry Fee: ?50 (for Indians) and ?650 (for foreign tourists)
3. Mehtab Bagh
Mehtab Bagh with 1 Day to Agra Tour by Car
Mehtab Bagh was originally built by Emperor Babur as the last park in a series of eleven parks on the Yamuna’s east bank. This was long before the Taj was constructed.
The Garden eventually fell into a state of disrepair until it was little more than a huge mound of sand. The park was revived again to protect the Taj Mahal from the erosive effects of the sand blown across the river.
Mahtab Bagh is now fully functional and is now one the best places from where tourists get an excellent view of the great mausoleum. The gardens of the Taj Mahal are perfectly aligned with the ones at Mehtab Bagh, and the view of the Taj from the fountain directly in front of the entrance gate is a special one.
